Conceived as a set of five pieces at an intermediate technical level, "Sqwonklets" was written so the duo’s distinctive voice could be heard in miniature, as well as creating repertoire that can be performed by some of the many bass clarinet duos inspired by Sqwonk. The five movements span a wide range of style, from driving post-minimalism to a lyrical and cheeky waltz, to delicate introspection. The duo, now in its third decade, showcases both technical and artistic mastery across the movements, and the album serves as a new addition to the ever-growing repertoire for two bass clarinets.
