What we are experiencing today with the refugee crisis has happened many times in both recent and less recent times. On the 17th December, we will bring a selection of music from people who have experienced displacement in their lives.
Programme:
Original composition – Zac Gvi (TBC)
Overture on Hebrew Themes – Prokofiev
Adagio from Brahms’ clarinet quintet in Bmin op.115
Chopin – solo piano (TBC)
***
Yiddish song recital
Klezmer
A new ensemble is coming together specially to play Prokofiev’s ‘Overture on Hebrew Themes’:
Jon Russell (clarinet), Holly Cullen-Davies (piano), Piotr Jordan and Flora Curzon (violins), Ariane Alexander (viola) and Richard Phillips (cello). The ensemble was formed by each musician’s love of playing both classical and non-classical music.
The group will then split into string quartet and clarinet to perform the Brahms, and Holly will perform solo Chopin.
The second half introduces Yiddish singer Rachel Weston who will perform a selection of Yiddish folk and art song.
Together, the two ensembles will have fun with some Klezmer tunes at the end of the night!
